Personal: PSD scholarship

"PETALING JAYA: Some top scorers are baffled that they have not been offered Public Service Department (PSD) scholarships despite having excelled in their examinations.
Yeoh Zheng Yi, who scored st-raight As in his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), said he thought he had done well during PSD's scholarship selection interview.
He was disappointed that he was not selected.
“My parents are retiring soon and my younger sister needs to go to college, too. I need this scholarship to ease my parents' financial burden.
“I would prefer to study engineering, particularly in Germany.
“But at this point, I wouldn't mind accepting any scholarship from PSD just as long as I get one,” said the student from SMK Tinggi Bukit Mertajam in Penang.
He said he was required to submit his parents' salary statements with his application.
“The form which is downloaded from the PSD website is no longer available now that applications for scholarships are closed,” said Yeoh.
SMK Taman Jasmin 2 student C.M. Vishnu Arvindran, who scored 9A+ and 1A, said he had not received the scholarship he had applied for.
“Yet, some of my friends who got 8A+ obtained their scholarship of choice,” he said.
He added that he had wanted a scholarship to do a degree course in medicine but was awarded one for a diploma in science.
Both students hoped they would still be awarded the scholarships after submitting their appeals."
This article is retrieved from The Star online on 21st May 2011. Looking at the article makes me wonder what if PSD stop giving the scholarship to students or people will repeatedly claim that it's their right. Scholarship is an award not a right or whatsoever. Your job is to apply and the rest is the offerer business. Nowadays, it seems that the situation have become vice-versa. The applicants oppress the offerer because they think that they DESERVE the scholarship. And suprisingly, the complaints come from certain 'sides'.
Some quarters may say that I am racist but it is just my point of view. No offence.
Foot Note: It is just my point view. You can make your own thought, interpretation but after all it is my opinion.

  1. now we come to realize why the chinese and Indian had been criticize and try to abolish 'Hak Istimewa Orang Melayu'. The minister should come out with brilliant solution for this matter. Why not we give a larger portion of JPA scholar to non-bumi, while MARA scholar mostly for bumi?
chinese and indian are Malaysian, too. they pay taxes, they throw votes, but they don't get similar benefit as us. pity them, and pity also for the 'melayu malas'
